Program I of grants for the attraction and establishment of digital nomads, teleworkers, and self-employed individuals."
Program to attract digital nomads to Extremadura, promoting remote work through digital tools, boosting economic activity, particularly in rural areas, and strengthening regional talent.
The Program I of grants for attracting and establishing digital nomads in Extremadura, approved by Decree 119/2024, aims to encourage the settlement of digital nomads in the region, promoting economic activity, strengthening local talent, and combating depopulation, particularly in rural areas. This initiative is part of Extremadura’s Digital Transformation Strategy and has a budget of €2 million, allocated to enhance the region’s competitiveness and innovation.
The program seeks to attract qualified talent, foster economic activity in rural areas, and strengthen regional digitalisation. Through this initiative, the goal is to improve connectivity, enhance digital infrastructure, and promote the use of innovative technologies, which are crucial for driving economic and social growth in the region.
Furthermore, the program addresses demographic and territorial challenges faced by Extremadura, significantly contributing to reducing depopulation and the gender gap through positive action measures that advance real equality in employment between men and women.
The grant amounts will be €10,000 for women, young people, and residents in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants. For other workers, the grant will be €8,000. The initiative aims to attract at least 200 digital nomads, and the initial grant may be increased by €5,000 for women and young people, and €4,000 for other beneficiaries if the remote professional activity is maintained for a third year.
This approach strengthens the region as an attractive destination for digital nomads, supporting the creation of a diverse professional community committed to Extremadura’s development and its integration into the global digital economy.
