Mujeres e Innovación - Informe 2024

The report "Mujeres e Innovación 2024" is the third edition of the biennial series launched by the Observatory of Women, Science, and Innovation (OMCI) of the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities. Since its inception in 2020, this initiative has focused on analyzing the participation of women in the field of innovation, an area where significant inequalities still persist.

Despite progress, Spain’s R&D&I system holds a significant opportunity to continue moving towards full and effective gender equality, particularly in areas such as career advancement and access to funding. This report not only provides key data to measure and improve gender equality policies but also adapts to current needs by including, for the first time, a qualitative analysis based on surveys and interviews with female leaders in innovation.

Divided into five chapters, the report covers:

• Participation in the labor market, contextualizing innovation in Spain with data on employment and expenditure.
• Women in innovation and knowledge transfer, focusing on patents, spin-offs, and activities in institutions such as the CSIC and universities.
• Innovative agenda, highlighting women’s participation in funding programs from the State Research Agency, ENISA, and other key entities.
• Leadership and decision-making, examining the roles of women in selection processes and advisory bodies within the Ministry.
• Survey and qualitative analysis, with conclusions from meetings and a decalogue extracted from interviews with female innovation leaders.

With an innovative approach and revealing data, this report offers a comprehensive and practical vision for advancing towards a more inclusive and equitable innovation ecosystem.
