“We seek to guarantee an ethical and responsible development of neurotechnology.” María López-Valdés, Founder and CEO of Bitbrain.
We spoke with María López, founding partner and CEO of Bitbrain, about how neurotechnology and artificial intelligence (AI) are redefining the interaction between people and machines. We addressed the ethical and regulatory challenges posed by this advance, the protection of brain data, and the keys to innovating in a sector that demands trust and responsibility.
Fifteen years ago, when neurotechnology was practically unknown, María López-Valdés decided to make the leap from the laboratory to the business world. With a solid background in Mathematics, a PhD in Computer Engineering, and an MBA, she committed to bringing this technology closer to society and converting it into real solutions. "We saw that neurotechnology, our field, could have a great impact on society, and we decided to bring this technology to people," she recalls.
Today, Bitbrain develops projects that combine neuroscience and AI to improve people's quality of life, from accessible devices to in-home interventions to delay dementia in patients with mild cognitive impairment. All of this, with a firm commitment to ethics and responsibility. "This concerns us and we address it: we work to ensure ethical and responsible development," states María, convinced that innovation is only meaningful if it generates trust.
