We spoke with Elena Sánchez Rivero

We speak with Elena Sánchez Rivero, an industrial engineer with extensive experience in the renewable energy sector and currently part of the Floating Power Plant team in the Canary Islands. Drawing on her experience in both the public and private sectors, Elena works on the development of innovative solutions that combine floating offshore wind and energy storage in the form of hydrogen, with the aim of accelerating the energy transition in particularly complex environments such as islands.

Elena Sanchez

In this interview, we explore Elena Sánchez’s professional journey, the technological development of Floating Power Plant, and the challenges associated with bringing an innovative offshore technology from pilot to market. We analyze why the Canary Islands are a strategic location for this type of project, how a financing strategy that combines European, national, and private funds is structured, and which lessons may be useful for other companies and territories.

A conversation that offers a practical perspective on energy innovation, financing complex projects, public–private collaboration, and the regulatory bottlenecks that still condition the deployment of key technologies for decarbonization.

Keep reading and watch the video at the bottom of the page to learn more about the experience and approach of Floating Power Plant.
